We are filming the story section of our music video today, as we completed the filming for our draft on Friday night, all we need now is to film our story section, which contains a husband and wife breaking up due to a partner cheating.
Today's Weather forecast is; Cloudy, chance of rain, grey/dull, possibly windy but not going to be strong.
I know this is a bit late going on to the blog but I forgot to upload it, as we are still deciding on our final actors, we are hoping to use Damon's Sister and Brother in Law, but it depends on whether they are available to film, as there is a possibility that they are busy.
I have been messing around with some draft designs for our website, I have been looking at other websites and have found some pretty interesting different websites for bands which are of the same genre as our band and song. Although there artists are of the same genre of music, they're websites don't have much similarity in designs, for example;
Linkin Park's Enter page
Queens of the Stone Age - Homepage
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Enter page
I'm not sure which software I'm going to use I have a choice between iWeb 11 from Apple based on Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Adobe's Dreamweaver mx 2004 on Windows 7.
Whilst Dreamweaver allows for the user to create a website from scratch, Apple's iWeb allows the user to add some very apathetically pleasing widgets, effortlessly. But at the moment I like the idea of making my website flash based so I can add some nice features as well as animation to it, this means I will probably use Dreamweaver but get some widget inspiration from iWeb.
I may post some printscreens of some draft designs tomorrow or if I get time I'll publish a site which has images and live drafts so you'll be able to use them to see which you think is best.
Last night we started our filming of our draft for the second time, after the first time we filmed it in a car park which with in an hour or so the car park's lights where turned off. after some errors (including, getting there and people getting a date with everybody being free to film) trying to re film in the Rugby, We decided that we were going to film in Croft for our draft. We arrived at 4 o'clock ish and started at about 4:20pm ish after setting up the drums, guitars, camera's etc. We spent about 2-3 hours filming, but in review of our footage today we discovered we where missing of shots that we thought we had filmed last night. Although we are now missing some these shots, we have to film them again, and as a consequence we are no planning on filming tomorrow after school, we have checked and the weather(please see weather app below) should be the same weather and are allowed to film in the same location.
We are also planning on filming the story section of our music video on Sunday afternoon, This is the best date for us to film as we are available to film that day. Although the weather says that there is a possibility of rain, this may only affect some of our filming as we are going to be filming inside, but also out side but for the minority of our time spent filming.
I have been researching websites for our digital media pack, I wanted to embed websites onto my blog, although I found the code to allow embeding, but it didn't work correctly.
I have been looking at Green Day, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers' website they all have enter/entrance pages.
I like idea of including a enter page into the website as well as images
I believe that we should have a cd layout, similar to this, e.g. with a picture, song titles, band and album title, record label title/logo along with the autifentication numbers and text.
For our cd design we are planning of having an image printed onto the cd, it may not be the exact same image as album cover, as normally a professional cd would have a different image.
I have sent Linkin Park an email asking for permission, I should hopefully hear back soon.
I couldn't find a "Contact us" link or anything like it on either the Linkin Park website or Warner Brothers Music, So I ended up signing up as a member then emailing Chester Bennington
I have just found a section where it allows you to send a message to "Team LP", on there section of the site it says you can contact them talking about the New Linkin Park website or ask them any questions you may have so I sent them the same message as I did to Chesters
We have been having difficulties recently with filming our draft. We started filming on Monday evening/night, in the Clock Towers, Rugby, but the lights of turned off which left us in an empty car park in the dark, unable to film, although we did get some shots we didn't complete the necessary shots. We have tried to rearrange with everyone the best day to film, and we are having difficulties getting everyone to rugby to film at Damon's uncles and the Clock Towers, so I propose we film at the location above in the pictures (only the car park ones), this is easier for Me, Darren, Rhys and Alex (actors), haven't had chance to speak to Damon as he is working today, but he will also need to ask his Sister and Brother in Law (actress and actor) whether it would be better for them to film here, but it is definitely closer. It wouldn't be quite what we originally planned and maybe we would still be able film in the planned places for our final film but as we need to get some decent shots for our draft production, we are now under some extreme pressure to get it completed soon.
So moving location for at least our draft filming would be the best option for most of us if not all of us, as we wouldn't be wasting time getting to rugby 3 of us would be able to walk, and others would have to arrive by a short 5-10 min car drive compared to 25/30 mins.
I am still thinking of a place to film instead of inside Damon's uncles house and rugby town centre but maybe Broughton Astely village centre Chill Out Cafe would be able an idea for the coffee shop scene.
Overall unexpectantly we have more people liking who said they liked the music genre Rock, also most people we asked said that they did like Linkin Park, although I suspect that they only like a couple of them, I believe this because of the Transformers movies and their collaborations with Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, I think this because even though the majority of people put that they liked rock, Linkin Park has been featured as the official artists of the Transformers movies, and have made an album with Jay-Z as well as toured with them, they have also made singles with Busta Rhymes.
We also had the majority of people questioned answering that they preferred illustrate music videos, which also had a narrative compared to a live performance type video.
I had an idea for our music video,
We could use black and white shots for the husband when he finds out about his wife cheating on him, and colour for the wife, when she is cheating on her husband. I think this would look good because we could use the colour to represent the happiness of the wife and the black and white shots would show disappointment, upset, depression, unhappiness etc in the husbands feelings.
We could also change the wife's colour shots to black and white at the end after she slaps him and she realises what's she's doing. (I don't think this is as good an ideas as the first but I still like it, although I'm not sure how well it would work).
depending on the filming equipment we have, we plan on using a school camera and Darren's camera, I believe we might be able to film in black and white although it would probably look better if we filmed all in colour and added the black and white effects after production by using Sony's Vegas Pro 9 editing software.
(This last photo should be in colour although I thought it was appropriate to our narrative)
I also think we could maybe add in something similar to this, during editing (I believe with the software we are going to use it is), it would look best right towards the end.
I have tried to scan my questionnaire feedback into my computer so I could put it on animoto, slideshare, flickr etc, but my computers keeps giving me a message saying use another scanner and my scanner says scanning but then does nothing. I am going to try again in the morning, then if that doesn't work I'll take photo's of them as. If I end up taking photo's of them I won't be uploaded until tomorrow evening, as I'm at Sheffield Hallam University open day, and probably won't be home until 5 or 6 o'clock especially as we think we may hit traffic from the Sheffield United match
This is Mychemical Romance's official video for their latest single, Na Na Na. there is a shot in it where you can see people walking but you can only see from their knees down.
Risk Assessment - slideshow maker Sorry for my poor handwriting and poor quality of scanning, my scanner broke so I had to use a old one, which isn't very good.
(The website I used to gain these picture slideshow is called "Kizoa", if you sign up to a paid account you can add music, special effects and tranisitions)
These Pictures are what I took whilst doing a risk assessment, along with my risk assessment Document You can see That overall I believe the destination we are going to film the band's performance is safe, as long as we keep to/check the risk assessment documents.
These are Pictures, that I took, in Rugby Clock Towers Car Park, I recently received Permission to Film there, I believe that this is the best location we have looked at as, it has everything we had talked about; Lights, Outside, and it'll keep with our narrative.
Risk Assessment will be uploaded tomorrow, I haven't had chance to complete a risk assessment yet as I haven't been able to go to rugby to do it yet I plan to go during my free lessons tomorrow to do it.
This Red Hot Chili Peppers Can't Stop, I chose to review this video because it's disjunctive which seems to be the case with most rock songs (disjunctive is a theory of Andrew Goodwin, where the lyrics have no relation to the images being shown on the video), I have been looking at on Youtube, Vevo, TV channels/shows. I believe this is a good video from RHCP because it's still interesting but at the same time strange and confusing. There are certain sections of the video which make me think that we could do something similar to that e.g. the start with the camera shot with the tunnel.
Even though the video is disjunctive which means it has no related meaning to the lyrics of the song, the video doesn't have any meaning or reference to anything.
This section of the video, with the camera going down the Yellow tubing, is the part which I like the most and would like to incorporate something like this into our music video, but I expect it wouldn't fit into the type of video we are looking to produce so it's likely that we'll never end up using an effect like that.
I think that it's a great method and original, I don't know of any other type of music video where something similar to this is used. The only way I think we could use it is if we used it as a transition prompt between past/future and present day or a similar effect.
The video includes special effects, but I can only seen one computer generated special effect, it's where the guitarist/singer is in a bin singing and there is two more of him singing next to him.
The Foo Fighters' Monkey Wrench is Disjunctive, because there isn't any linked meaning between the lyrics of the song to the video that they have made.
All the members of the band star in the video, you see them either singing, or playing the drums and guitars or as poeple who live in the appartment/appartments nearby.
Band members consist of Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiftlett
They use a continuity editing, some of the shots they use move but slowly so the user barely notices the movement of the camera, in others they are motionless shots which range from long shots to extreme closeups.to wide angle shots.
There aren't any special effects used during the music video, they just use clever camera shots, e.g. they pan between the car park and the house, which allows them to switch locations easily without the video jumping to other locations.
I believe that we should use this editing style along with "jumpcut" and "Cross-Cutting" it would allow ours to look professional and not as if amateurs have made it, I believe that you can have greats shots but with poor editing the film will look rubbish, and for this video this isn't the case
This is the official Music Video but it was never released to the media to be shown on places like VIVA or 4Music as it was too long.
">
This is the version which was released to be shown TV channels, etc.
30 Seconds To Mars made this video for From Yesterday in China, it's believed to be the first video from an american band to be made entirely in "The Peoples of republic China", it is filmed inside of a chinese fort/monestry. The video like Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench and Red Hot Chili Peppers Can't Stop, is also Disjunctive. The video has no apparent relation between the lyrics and the video.
Like most music videos of the rock genre this doesn't consist of the male gaze, although there are four girls in the video the shots aren't meant to be in the form of male gaze.
Andrew Goodwin's disjunctive theories have been applied to this music video, as it has no apparent relation between the lyrics and the shots in the video. The narrative of the video is that it's a Chinese emperors birthday and he requests 30 Seconds To Mars, They are given a gift, which is Chinese warrior armer, they then start to battle with others until it's just those four left. This is where the music and the video finishes.
They don't use special effects as we would normally think of them e.g. bomb explosions etc but they use effects such as subtitles, Fireworks in the Background, Battle scenes.
Editing and Filming
In the music video the large majority of the shots are taken from a motionless position and are transitioned between each different angle/location without there being an obvious transition slide between them. , and I hope it isn't for ours. The editing method used in the music video is called Continuity editing or invisible editing, as this type of editing doesn't draw attention to it from the audience.
I have just rang to ask for permission, to use the Car Park Top Level at the Clock Towers in Rugby. The top level doesn't have a roof, so this is why I believe this would be a great place to film, we would be able to film around 6-7pm on this Monday, We will have to check in with security first, before we start to film but then we can film as we choose.
We want to get some shots of a full moon, and by using this chart it informs us when the best time to film is, and according to this it's October 23rd although if necessary we would be able to use a day before or after, although this won't be a full moon it will be close enough, because we don't require it to be perfect.
In our music video, in most of the music video's that we have looked at in this genre, have on average 50% shots of the band and 50% shots of the story to the music video.
I believe that we shouldn't stick to using 50% of the shots of Story and Band, I think that our shots should be more like 20/30% of the shots compared to the story being 70/80%. I think that this would work because our story seems to be longer than our band performance,
We had thought about filming at my Nan and Grandad's garden, for the performance of the Band. Personally I liked the idea because it's an open space, which will allow us to film the shots that we wanted because we plan on filming at night we had this idea of shining a halogen light behind the lead singer which would turn on after we pan down from the shot of the moon, the light would be behind the lead singer but also at an angel.
Although these photos have been taken a while ago,
These are some pictures of a location that I believe would be great for us to film in for our Band performance section of the music video, I don't think we should use all of the locations shown, but I do think that there are 2 really good locations in the photo's these are displayed below
