Defining our target audience

Posted by Unknown on 20:06 in , , ,
Our target audience is predominantly;
  • Males aged between 14 and 25.
  • They enjoy rock music specifically alternative rock music.
  • Have hobbies such as skateboarding, roller skating.
  • Like brands such as converse, Nike 6.0, Quicksilver, etc.
  • Music they enjoy might include bands like Green Day, AC/DC, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, My Chemical Romance and Guns ‘n’ Roses.
  • Their clothing style would be skinny/slim fit jeans mainly of dark blue or black, t shirts which has; the brands logo, slogan, name, a bands name, logo, album name or has a design/pattern on it, they may also wear a cap or hat, board shorts and skater shoes.

Location of final production

These are pictures of where I believe would be the best place for us to film, plus there are a couple of pictures of me, the clothing and shoes in the shots that I'm wearing, are what I had thought of wearing during the performance, although I'm not positive about the jumper as I'm not sure if it fits correctly with everything else, whereas I think the scruffy skater shoes and skinny/slim jeans along with my scarf fits what I want my characters profile to be like.

The location shots differ, but not in location they are only in my house either my living room or garage, I think my garage will look better with my door down, as it will make the mes en scene look grungy, dirty and altogether more of a location where a rock band may film, as it doesn't look like a typical garage, you may be able to tell it's a garage but with posters etc on the walls and doors it will be disguised.
I have asked my dad to put an extra 4ft florescent light in, as we have a spare which we kept from when we redecorated. This should give us plenty of lighting in there, as it will have two 4ft florescent lights and if we need it we can add more by using halogen lamps which can be plugged into a nearby socket.

BA Location change possible

We have been having difficulties recently with filming our draft. We started filming on Monday evening/night, in the Clock Towers, Rugby, but the lights of turned off which left us in an empty car park in the dark, unable to film, although we did get some shots we didn't complete the necessary shots. We have tried to rearrange with everyone the best day to film, and we are having difficulties getting everyone to rugby to film at Damon's uncles and the Clock Towers, so I propose we film at the location above in the pictures (only the car park ones), this is easier for Me, Darren, Rhys and Alex (actors), haven't had chance to speak to Damon as he is working today, but he will also need to ask his Sister and Brother in Law (actress and actor) whether it would be better for them to film here, but it is definitely closer. It wouldn't be quite what we originally planned and maybe we would still be able film in the planned places for our final film but as we need to get some decent shots for our draft production, we are now under some extreme pressure to get it completed soon.
So moving location for at least our draft filming would be the best option for most of us if not all of us, as we wouldn't be wasting time getting to rugby 3 of us would be able to walk, and others would have  to arrive by a short 5-10 min car drive compared to 25/30 mins.

I am still thinking of a place to film instead of inside Damon's uncles house and rugby town centre but maybe Broughton Astely village centre Chill Out Cafe would be able an idea for the coffee shop scene.

Using MyChemical Romance for shot inspiration

This is Mychemical Romance's official video for their latest single, Na Na Na. there is a shot in it where you can see people walking but you can only see from their knees down.

Risk Assessment Documents

Risk Assessment - slideshow maker
Sorry for my poor handwriting and poor quality of scanning, my scanner broke so I had to use a old one, which isn't very good.
(The website I used to gain these picture slideshow is called "Kizoa", if you sign up to a paid account you can add music, special effects and tranisitions)

These Pictures are what I took whilst doing a risk assessment, along with my risk assessment Document You can see That overall I believe the destination we are going to film the band's performance is safe, as long as we keep to/check the risk assessment documents.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Cant Stop Review

This Red Hot Chili Peppers Can't Stop, I chose to review this video because it's disjunctive which seems to be the case with most rock songs (disjunctive is a theory of Andrew Goodwin, where the lyrics have no relation to the images being shown on the video), I have been looking at on Youtube, Vevo, TV channels/shows. I believe this is a good video from RHCP because it's still interesting but at the same time strange and confusing. There are certain sections of the video which make me think that we could do something similar to that e.g. the start with the camera shot with the tunnel.
Even though the video is disjunctive which means it has no related meaning to the lyrics of the song, the video doesn't have any meaning or reference to anything.

This section of the video, with the camera going down the Yellow tubing, is the part which I like the most and would like to incorporate something like this into our music video, but I expect it wouldn't fit into the type of video we are looking to produce so it's likely that we'll never end up using an effect like that.
I think that it's a great method and original, I don't know of any other type of music video where something similar to this is used. The only way I think we could use it is if we used it as a transition prompt between past/future and present day or a similar effect.

The video includes special effects, but I can only seen one computer generated special effect, it's where the guitarist/singer is in a bin singing and there is two more of him singing next to him.

Monkey Wrench, Foo Fighters Review

The Foo Fighters' Monkey Wrench is Disjunctive, because there isn't any linked meaning between the lyrics of the song to the video that they have made.
All the members of the band star in the video, you see them either singing, or playing the drums and guitars or as poeple who live in the appartment/appartments nearby.
Band members consist of Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiftlett
They use a continuity editing, some of the shots they use move but slowly so the user barely notices the movement of the camera, in others they are motionless shots which range from long shots to extreme closeups.to wide angle shots.
There aren't any special effects used during the music video, they just use clever camera shots, e.g. they pan between the car park and the house, which allows them to switch locations easily without the video jumping to other locations.

30 Seconds To Mars From Yesterday

This is the official Music Video but it was never released to the media to be shown on places like VIVA or 4Music as it was too long.
">

This is the version which was released to be shown TV channels, etc.

30 Seconds To Mars made this video for From Yesterday in China, it's believed to be the first video from an american band to be made entirely in "The Peoples of republic China", it is filmed inside of a chinese fort/monestry. The video like Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench and Red Hot Chili Peppers Can't Stop, is also Disjunctive. The video has no apparent relation between the lyrics and the video.

Like most music videos of the rock genre this doesn't consist of the male gaze, although there are four girls in the video the shots aren't meant to be in the form of male gaze.

Andrew Goodwin's disjunctive theories have been applied to this music video, as it has  no apparent relation between the lyrics and the shots in the video. The narrative of the video is that it's a Chinese emperors birthday and he requests 30 Seconds To Mars, They are given a gift, which is Chinese warrior armer, they then start to battle with others until it's just those four left. This is where the music and the video finishes.

They don't use special effects as we would normally think of them e.g. bomb explosions etc but they use effects such as subtitles, Fireworks in the Background, Battle scenes.

Editing and Filming
In the music video the large majority of the shots are taken from a motionless position and are transitioned between each different angle/location without there being an obvious transition slide between them. , and I hope it isn't for ours. The editing method used in the music video is called Continuity editing or invisible editing, as this type of editing doesn't draw attention to it from the audience.

Conventions I believe we should break - Linkin Park What I've Done

In our music video, in most of the music video's that we have looked at in this genre, have on average 50% shots of the band and 50% shots of the story to the music video.
I believe that we shouldn't stick to using 50% of the shots of Story and Band, I think that our shots should be more like 20/30% of the shots compared to the story being 70/80%. I think that this would work because our story seems to be longer than our band performance,

What I've Done Music Video ideas and inspiration

We could have shots of a person doing something they shouldn't have done e.g. steel from a shop ( but they get worse at doing what they have done e.g. steel more etc) then show them starting to feel regret and guilt and then show them start to feel uncomfortable with them selves for what they have done. The then attempt to repair the damage

What I've Done video inspiration and ideas

What I've Done by Linkin Park is the song we are looking at producing a video for, I have had an idea for the video we could make it would be a video which Starts with a shots of a couple in love, then cross cuts to flowers growing, cross cuts back to one of the couple cheating (either man/woman) then arguing, spliting up. We would then cross cut back to the flowers dying and wilting then a shot of the soil where the flowers would have been.
The Flowers could be a representation of the couple's love growing and dying

I can see a problem with the idea though, this would be we would have to get permission of somebody to use their shots as we wouldn't have the time to film our own as it would take ages to get the types of shots which would be necessary for the video.

Preliminary Video Busted That's What I go to school for

Posted by Unknown on 16:05 in , , , , ,

At the moment there is an error with the video, I got an email from Youtube saying that because We have used the Busted song because it's not owned by us.
There are certain shots that we were missing whilst editing the video.

Andrew Goodwin notes

Posted by Unknown on 19:23 in , , , , ,
Illustrate - This is where the meaning of the song's lyrics show meaning in the images seen in the video
Disjunctive - Where the songs meaning is completely ignored and the video has no related meaning
Allite - Sequences of the music video are repeated (e.g. churus sections have similar sections)

Mind Map of ideas for 'What I've Done' - Working Progress

Although I'm not yet sure which video I will make I have started to develop ideas for music videos I like.
This is for Linkin Park's What I've Done, I like this song and have had a few ideas for it.  I haven't completed my mind map for this music video.

I plan on making a couple more of these mind maps for other songs that I like, I hope to include;
  • Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters
  • Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
  • In The End and Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
