Red Hot Chili Peppers - Postmodern - to be finished

Posted by Unknown on 22:20 in ,
Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band started out in Los Angeles in 1983 producing songs such as Higher Ground, which is a remake of Stevie Wonders Higher Ground. They are now considered as rock band although underneath their rock music lyes some funk and possibly jazz music, this seems to be non-stereotypical of a rock band to use some underlying funk sounds on their rock music.

Although they are now considered a rock band, their music styles vary from; Funk to alternative rock, rock, punk rock and rap.
Some of the band's influences include;

  • Jimi Hendrix
  • James Brown
  • Bob Marely
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Elvis Presley
  • The Beatles
  • Defunkt
  • Parliament-Funkadelic
Artists who inspired them from the same-to-current generation include;
  • Foo Fighters
  • Nirvana
  • Pearl Jam
  • Radiohead

Desert Bus

Posted by Unknown on 16:59 in , , , ,
Modern games such as Call of Duty, Man Hunt, etc have had complaints about it's violence and realism, even Col. Gaddafi is blaming the Libyan uprising on violent video games.
Desert Bus is a video game which is a representation of real life. The player of the game has to drive a bus through a desert at a maximum speed of 45mph on a 8 hour drive to Las Vegas, the bus has no passengers, there are no other cars on the road. If you go off the road you will have to wait for a toe-truck to arrive and toe you back at a real time e.g. if you've driven 6 hours it'll take you back 6 hours to get back to the start, which forces you to start over again, the bus slowly drifts right which forces the driver to constantly input a change in direction to keep the bus on the road. if you complete the route one way you will receive 1 point, the maximum score on the game is 99 points, which means that you would have to play for 41days straight without any breaks as there is no pause/stop button. The scenery only changes when a bug splats onto your windscreen about 5 hours into to your journey, other than that you see a the odd rock and stop sign, and depending on what time you play e.g. night, day, dusk etc the time/scenery effects change accordingly.

As Jameson argued that it's is now harder to judge what is real and what isn't, e.g. the line between simulation and reality is being blurred in postmodern society. Jameson would say that games such as Desert Bus are a pastiche of real life, as they are a imitation, it is an imitation of real life because if you did drive a bus from Tucan to Las Vegas, it would take you 8 hours, and if you did break down it would take the pick up truck 'x' amount of hours to arrive, and toe you back.
